…and fans all around the world are asking themselves a few questions.
- How many times can they marathon watch the last four seasons of the world’s greatest historical fiction series in roughly 10 months?
- How many weeks per book would it take to start reading the books again for the umpteenth millionth time to get back to The Fiery Cross before Season 5 begins (hopefully in November)?
- How many images are on Google of Sam Heughan… and oh, ya, ….all the other cast members…. and do I have enough space on my phone to save them all?
Relax. There are at least enough images on the Google to save a new one as your phone’s lock screen each and every day of Droughtlander.
Why are we so addicted to this book series/show/story? One answer: because Diana Gabaldon’s love story/adventure with Claire and Jamie Fraser is so deep, so pure, so passionate that we wish we had that – even if we DO have that – we want a love story of our own to match theirs. Maybe with a little less torture, rape and evil, but with the passion of James Fraser at its core.
So how do we survive the next 10 long months?
1. Watch every marathon Starz has to offer. Show that network that they NEED to continue producing the show so long as Diana Gabaldon writes books. And when the story of Jamie and Claire is over, we want them to produce either the Lord John series of books or possibly the story of Bree and Roger, if that book series comes to be.
2. Read the books. Read them again and again and again. No the books are not EXACTLY like the show. They can’t be. Enjoy the show for the show. Enjoy the books for the richness of word and all the little things that couldn’t fit in the show. Get lost in them.
3. Buy great fandom merchandise and wear it often. Wear it to work. Wear it out with friends. Wear it out shopping. You’d be surprised how easy it is to do a closet COSplay inspired by Outlander. It is a great way to meet other fans and fill an otherwise long boring wait in the doctor’s office.
